Data Centers

A data center can occupy one room of a building, one or more floors, or an entire building. Most of the equipment usually consists of servers stacked in 19 inch racks or cabinets, that are usually placed in single rows with corridors between them. This allows access to the front and rear of each cabinet.

IT operations have become a crucial aspect of most organizational operations and one of the main concerns is business continuity. Government departments and private sector companies rely on their information systems to run their operations, and if a system falters, the organization’s operations may decline or even stop completely. It has become crucial to provide a reliable copper and fiber cabling infrastructure for IT operations, in order to minimize any chance of disruption.

Marcomm has extensive experience and expertise working in those environments through standing offers with the Government of Canada and has become a leader in completing large and complex assignments. Information security and physical security have become a top issue of concern, and for this reason a data center has to offer a secure environment which minimizes the chances of a security breach. A data center must therefore keep high standards for assuring the integrity and functionality of its hosted computer environment.

Data center construction and expansion is predicted to continue steadily in the future worldwide. With the increasing focus on reliability and efficiency, the initial design is more important than ever. Thus, today’s data center designer is required to have knowledge of mechanical, electrical and telecommunications systems and how they interact.

Marcomm’s BICSI certified data center designer analyses requirements, makes recommendations and provides pertinent information that should be considered when working with critical systems, such as electrical, mechanical and telecommunication networks, as well as other significant needs, such as site selection, security, and building considerations.

Due to the critical operations of data centers, an emergency response line is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. We can provide recommendations on data centers based on your organization’s requirements. For more information, contact the nearest Marcomm office in your region.
